Aeonium decorum / 20 seeds (Green Pinwheel)

Aeonium decorum is an evergreen succulent shrub with thick branches and leaves arranged on them in rosettes around 4 inches wide. The succulent shrub grows 2 feet tall and several feet wide, forming a dense mound. The green leaves are 2 inches long and 2 cm wide. They look attractive especially because of a yellow tinge and toothy purple margins and red, pink and white star-shaped flowers that grow during blooming season on peduncles that rise above the rosettes. Branches of this succulent may be upright or drooping towards the ground depending on the plant.

A sunny warm location on a south window is best for the container of Aeonium decorum. If light conditions are not proper, its leaves grow deformed, elongated, and ultimately die, although it can tolerate light shade if it gets at least 6 hours of sunlight every day.

October to February is the dormancy period for Aeonium decorum during which you should water it very sparingly. This plant doesn’t tolerate waterlogging, hence excess water should be able to drain freely or should be poured out of the container after watering.

Aeonium decorum flourishes well in warm temperatures from 18-degree C to 23-degree C (65-degree F to 75-degree F). During the winter, it prefers temperatures around 12-degree C (53-degree F), but doesn’t tolerate temperatures below 10-degree C (50-degree F). but this plant can’t even bear intense temperature. In intense heat, its leaves will curl to avoid excess water loss.
This succulent should be fed a weak solution of succulent fertilizer every four weeks during the growth phase which is from spring to winter, whereas you should not feed it during its rest period.
Aeonium decorum is typically pest- and disease-free.

Although Aeonium decorum is popularly propagated via cuttings of stem and leaves, it can be propagated via seeds too. You should wrap seeds in plastic and then place them in indirect sunlight. Soil should be kept moist until germination occurs. Once the seeds germinate, you can remove the plastic. Once the seedlings become a cm and a half tall, you should place them in a bigger pot.
